Our rubies shine in the Windy City
Eleven students from Carmen’s School of Dance competed in the 40-year Ruby Celebration at the Port Elizabeth Dance Festival, held on 28 August.
The adjudicator was Brigitte Reeve-Taylor, and among the 11 dancers who participated, a total of 32 dance items were entered. The hard-working dancers achieved 20 gold awards, 11 silver awards and one bronze award.
On top of this, Celyn Godfrey and Madison Starkey were also awarded the following:
- Overall age category winners for their classical and demi-character solos;
- National Dance Age category winners for their character dance solos.
In addition, Starkey shared the Merrill Lane Platter for the most promising junior dancer.
The studio was also awarded the Hermie Trophy for best group in both the junior and senior sections (for military manoeuvres) and their Highland Fling Ensemble was awarded best national group in both the junior and senior national sections.
