New bins on beaches for fishing lines
Beaches along the Southern Cape coast will soon have their own bins where fisherman can throw away their broken or used fishing lines.
The implementation of this project follows the successful pilot project, which uses PVC pipes as bins for discarded fishing line along the Overberg Gansbaai shoreline and beaches on the Western, Northern and Eastern Cape Coast.
According to John Kieser, Sustainability Manager for Plastics|SA, more than 150 pipes were donated by DPI Plastics for the roll-out of the next phase of the project.
This will include the Wilderness, Victoria Bay, Glentana and Herold’s Bay beaches.
