Murder suspect abandons bail
The suspect arrested in connection with the cash in transit (CIT) robbery that left a guard dead in Knysna on Saturday 26 June abandoned his bail application when he appeared in court on 8 July.
Mzoxolo Bushula (28) was arrested by police just outside Mossel Bay two days after the armed robbery in Knysna.
Police had tracked the suspect’s vehicle that was used in the incident after it was identified on CCTV footage near the spot where the robbery occurred. He was arrested on the morning of 28 June and the vehicle was seized. He was charged for robbery with aggravating circumstances and murder.
Bushula appeared in the Knysna Magistrate’s Court on 30 June when the matter was postponed to 8 July for a bail application. According to Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani, during his bail hearing, Bushula abandoned his bail application.
“The case was then remanded to 10 August for further investigation,” Hani said.

During the robbery a group of suspects targeted a Fidelity Security CIT vehicle that was retrieving cash from a supermarket at the Woodmill Lane shopping centre. There were two security guards collecting the cash, and one waited in the vehicle while the other carried out the collection.
The guard collecting the cash was shot and killed. His partner discovered his body when he reacted to the noise caused by the incident.
