Knysna topped popular tourist cities across Africa to come in second in the Conde Nast Travel magazine’s World’s Best Cities list.
Knysna topped popular tourist cities across Africa to come in second in the Conde Nast Travel magazine’s World’s Best Cities list. The quaint town on the Garden Route of the Western Cape was second only to Cape Town and beat Marrakech (Morocco), Fez (Morocco) and Cairo (Egypt) to the runner-up position.
Knysna Municipal Manager Lauren Waring said the town was immensely proud to be so popular with the readers of Conde Naste. “As a large percentage of readers are international and often well-travelled, this survey is a very special feather in our cap. I believe it is the town’s unique setting, friendly people and great diversity that contribute towards an unforgettable experience.
“We appreciate the many people who work every day in many ways towards improving our town. Whether it be behind the scenes, keeping the town running and clean, or whether up close and personal hosting guests, we know it was due to the people of Knysna that we made the Number 2 spot in Africa.”
Ms Waring also congratulated the people of Cape Town for achieving the number one spot. “It is wonderful sharing the spotlight with such an exceptional city. We share in your pride,” said Warring.
Knysna scored an overall Readers Choice rating of 72.2 including 85.5 for ambience, 83.9 for friendliness, 78 for lodging, 72.1 for restaurants, 68.3 for culture and sites, and 49 for shopping.
