Knysna Municipality is ready to welcome the summer season
The municipality’s Integrated Seasonal Readiness Plan (ISRP) is in place and will be implemented until 31 January.
The ISRP focusses on the delivery of a number of services, including traffic management, law enforcement, fire and rescue, parks and recreation and waste management. It defines clear responsibilities of relevant municipal sections and the effective implementation of this plan will promote a safe environment for residents and visitors, ensuring that services are delivered throughout the busy season.
Traffic
We make provision for the increase in vehicles on our roads each year and 20 temporary point duty officers will be deployed to relieve traffic congestion. Zero tolerance will be shown to traffic offenders and the Municipal Traffic Section will participate in joint operations between traffic officials, law enforcement officers, fire officials and the South African Police Services to promote traffic management and general compliance.
Law Enforcement
Our Law Enforcement Officers will be performing their regular duties with the assistance of 20 temporary officers who have been appointed for the seasonal period. These officers will enforce municipal by-laws and also assist in combating crime by participating in special operations with SAPS, the traffic- and other relevant departments. They will also patrol Greater Knysna’s beaches and public recreational areas, ensuring that everyone enjoys a safe and secure summer.
Parks and recreation
We are in the process of finalising the repairs and maintenance to all braai and recreational facilities. A maintenance team will inspect and repair all defects on our boardwalks and playparks on a weekly basis. Our dedicated officials will be on standby to attend to all defects from 23 December 2021 until 15 January 2022.

Covid safety
Sanitise or wash your hands frequently. Wear your mask when you’re not at home, covering your nose and mouth properly. Avoid crowded spaces, especially indoors. Avoid unnecessary contact. The summer weather allows for families and friends to gather outdoors – remember to still keep your distance from one another and avoid hugging and kissing family or friends. Try to avoid visiting the shops during busy times. If you feel unwell, stay home and away from those who share your space. We can all enjoy a friendly festive season, but we can all do so safely.
