Knysna Chief Financial Officer Memani resigns from post
Knysna Municipality Council during a special council meeting on Tuesday noted the resignation of its chief financial officer (CFO) Mbulelo Memani and appointed Morne Michaels as the acting CFO.
Acting Municipal Manager Dr Louis Scheepers said Memani told him on 5 October that he was resigning.
“I informed him to submit his resignation in writing and that his contract of employment requires two months’ notice.”
Scheepers said he informed Mayor Elrick van Aswegen of the CFO’s resignation and that Memani’s early termination would be considered by Council.
According to Scheepers, Memani submitted his resignation before the council meeting on Tuesday morning, after his legal representative submitted a letter to the municipality on Monday.
This was not the first time Memani submitted his resignation this year.
In a controversial series of resignations which included those of former Acting Municipal Manager Dr Michele Gratz and former Ward 9 Councillor Peter Myers in May, Memani also resigned, but later withdrew his resignation.
Memani vacates his post while a complaint of financial misconduct against him by the Knysna Ratepayers’ Association, and another in connection with the contro-versial R43-million prepaid water meter contract by community organisation Knysna United, are still pending.
The outgoing CFO’s last day of employment will be on 30 October and his last day in office will be on Friday 16 October.
