Khayalethu Library takes reading to the streets
The Khayalethu Library team hosted a Reading Rally in partnership with nine Pre-Schools in Knysna on 13 March.
This initiative is part of the annual Library Week, programme. The Librarians were assisted by Traffic and Fire Departments for safety and traffic control.
The municipal officials and approximately 150 children from Ethembeni, Paula Whitney, Learning Tree, Judah Square, Isiseko, Rainbow, Lingolom Afrika and Ikamva Lethu Pre-schools marched from Magadla shop to Sanlam Centre with placard messages encouraging people to read.
Community Services Chairperson, Councillor Welcome Salaze expressed his excitement about the Reading Rally programme. “Our staff have come up with such a different and creative way to reach out to young people. Thank you to all of them for encouraging people to read at an early age.”
The Khayalethu Library also made used the opportunity to distribute and collect library card application forms. All residents are encouraged to visit their closest library and apply for the library card free of charge.
