Indigenous plant sale blooms
Pledge Nature Reserve successfully hosted its very first locally indigenous plant sale last weekend, with plant lovers coming together on Saturday 4 September.
The plant sale, held at the reserve itself, celebrated the advent of spring, and the wealth of flora that occurs naturally in our neck of the woods. Between 09:00 and 15:00 more than a hundred species, of which many are not easy to come by, were offered for sale.
Experts were also on hand to explain how these plants will grow, and where one can plant them in your garden.
Pledge Nature Reserve’s Nanna Joubert was grateful for the local growers who put their plants on display.
“A big thank you to Richard Bolus of Redford Nursery, Mike Knight of MK Horticulture, and John Moll of Roots to Shoots Nursery, who brought, and sold their range of local species,” she said. “Your dedication to growing our local indigenous species has inspired us and made this event possible!”
The local indigenous plant sale was held at Pledge Nature Reserve.
She was also thankful to Knysna Wayside Inn for supplying picnic tables and umbrellas, and Melissa Adams who joined them to sell their delicious drinks and pastries.
“Thank you, Dave Spence of South Cape Toilet Hire, who sponsored the portable loos. Thank you, our staff, volunteers, and upper town residents, for preparing the area before the event, and for supporting and helping during the sale. And above all, thank YOU for coming to the sale and supporting what is truly LOCAL!!!”
The stairs outside Pledge Nature Reserve promoted the plant sale.
