Human error results in no water
The Knysna Municipal Manager, Lauren Waring, admitted that the municipality made a mistake when it failed to send a water truck to the residents who were left without water after a pipe had burst in Hornlee.
In an article in this newspaper on March 1, Hornlee residents claimed that the Knysna Municipality takes better care of residents in socalled upmarket suburbs than of residents in the poorer areas.
They based this assumption on the fact that the municipality trucked water to Leisure Isle and Knysna Heads when a burst pipe caused an interruption in water supply, “but when a pipe burst in Hornlee, leaving us without water from Tuesday, February 21 around 13:00 until after 22:00, no trucks were sent to give us any water”.
Waring explained that as part of the protocol for dealing with pipe bursts, water should be made available to the affected households.
“Unfortunately, due to human error, this was not arranged. We will strive to not have this happen again. However should a community be left without water again, they are urged to speak to the official on duty or call 044 302 6300 and report the matter.”
In closing she added: “We apologise for any inconvenience that was caused.”
