Dotty about dota 2
The e-sports players of Oakhill College in Knysna continue to excel, with three learners, as well as an Old Oak, having been selected for the Protea team to complete in the International E-sports Federation (IESF) World Championships.
Brothers Ryan and Simon Shearer, James Armstrong, and 2019 Oakhill matriculant Lourens Kok have all been named in the SA side for their prowess in the multiplayer, online battle arena video game, Dota 2.
With Kok selected as vice-captain for the team, the Knysna boykies occupy four of the seven slots in the Proteas team as announced by Mind Sports SA (MSSA) earlier this month. The team is currently taking part in the regional-competition phase of the IESF 2020 World Championships, which is set to continue until 20 November.
Thereafter, finalists from each region and title (game) will participate in the offline finals in Eilat, Israel.
The world championships are the IESF’s flagship competition, where players from all over the world participate in a unique and vibrant tournament while representing their nations.
The event is the only major e-sports tournament featuring true national teams according to MSSA’s press release, and this year’s competition is expected to be the largest one to date, with approximately 60 nations expected to participate.
