CX clubs kick off 50 over league
The teams from Knysna Cavaliers, Plettenberg Bay Pioneers and Pirates United cricket clubs who play in the SWD Cricket Reserve League got their season going last Sunday, 28 November.
The clubs are represented in the league in various forms. Cavaliers and Pioneers are represented by their second and third teams, while Pirates are only represented by a second team as they are not required to have a third team.
These five teams make up Group A of the SWD Cricket Reserve League for the 2021/22 season.
This season marks the first time that clubs whose first teams play in the SWD Cricket Premier League are required to field three teams during the season.

Group A of the Reserve League started on Sunday 28 November with Cavaliers B facing Pioneers B at Loerie Park and Pirates B facing Cavaliers C at the Hornlee Sport Grounds. Pioneers C were handed a bye for the first weekend.
Pirates B vs Cavaliers C
Pirates won the toss and chose to bowl first. Cavaliers captain Wessel Croukamp top-scored with 12 runs while Kyle Groome and Irvin Campher contributed 10 runs each as Cavaliers were bowled out for 64 runs. Edwin Lukas was Pirates’ best bowler, claiming three wickets for one run in 0,5 overs. Zynn Plaatjies, Carlo Witbooi and Jehustian Prinsloo claimed two wickets each and Theo Oelf grabbed one.
Cavaliers’ bowling was almost as disciplined as Pirates’ and meant the game was always in the balance. Lukas top-scored for Pirates with 18 runs as his side made it to 66-7 to win by three wickets. Jaco de Lange was Cavaliers’ best bowler with two wickets for 16 runs in four overs. Rudi Cronjé contributed with two wickets while Croukamp and Campher claimed a wicket each.
Cavaliers B vs Pioneers B
Cavaliers won the toss and also chose to bowl first. They delivered a strong bowling performance and bowled Pioneers out for 54 with Graeme Jasson’s eight runs making him the top-scorer for his side.
Bradley Booysen was Cavaliers’ best bowler with four wickets for 18 runs in six overs, while Werner Mels and Blake Linder claimed three wickets each.
Cavaliers’ run chase started off well, but the loss of three wickets threatened to derail the chase. Captain and top scorer Jannie Cremer (16 runs) steadied the ship, however, and hit a six to secure a seven-wicket win for Cavaliers. Claude Terblanche was Pioneers’ best bowler with two wickets for 17 runs in five overs while Leighton Jonas took one wicket. The win for Cavaliers B puts them top of the group after the first games.
