Consumers: Tyre levy is here
The tyre levy implemented by Redisa (Recycling and Economic Development Initiative of South Africas) is filtering through to consumers as from the beginning of November.
Although the new levy has been charged from 1 October, some tyre manufacturers decided to absorb it for the first month, according to Redisa.
But if you buy tyres now, you are probably going to pay the higher price.
It is expected to have a major effect on the running costs of transport businesses.
A local tyre retailer complained that no proper system is in place to ensure the meaningful implementation of the plan.
