By-Elections on hold until review application
The eagerly-awaited order by the Western Cape High Court concerning the urgent interdict requested by Mark Willemse to place his removal from the DA (and thus mayor of Knysna) on hold and stop a date being set for a by-election, was finally made yesterday after days of consideration.
The ruling states that the Knysna Municipal Manager, the Local Government MEC Anton Bredell and the Independent Electoral Commission’s Chief Electoral Officer (or delegate) are ‘’interdicted and restrained from calling and setting a date for a by-election’’ until the review application (to set aside the termination of Willemse’s membership of the DA) now set for Monday 18 November 2019, is heard.
Both Willemse and the DA must file their heads of argument by the previous Monday, 11 November.
