Knysna Municipality has Announces Opening of a Homeless Shelter in 2024.

The highly anticipated homeless shelter is scheduled to open its doors at the start of the New Year. “Taking care of the most vulnerable people in our community is a shared responsibility, and we are thrilled to announce that we are a few steps closer to addressing their needs. It’s not just a shelter; it’s a symbol of unity, hope, and community strength.”

This initiative represents a collaborative effort involving key stakeholders such as the Homeless Forum, Knysna Business Chamber, Buco, and dedicated community members. The goal is to transform a building into a haven for those experiencing homelessness in Knysna. The project has reached significant milestones, including roof repairs, plumbing upgrades, and carpentry work—essential steps in creating a safe and welcoming shelter.

Sebola emphasized the municipality’s steadfast commitment to providing the necessary infrastructure for the Department of Social Development to fund the Non-Profit Organization (NPO) managing the homeless shelter in the near future.
