Anti drug crusaders target schools
Knysna Alcohol and Drug Centre last week embarked on a series of motivational talks at schools in Knysna in an attempt to tackle the scourge of substance abuse among teenagers.
The centre approaches this social problem on three levels: by starting at grassroots with awareness programmes; focusing on early intervention and prevention; and finally, assisting those who find themselves stumbling into KADC for help with reintegration and providing aftercare in an effort to ensure they don’t revert back to their previously destructive ways.
According to the KADC, there remains a problem among teenagers when it comes to alcohol and drug abuse, and their latest initiatives came on Thursday
10 October when they visited Percy Mdala High School and Knysna Secondary School with motivational speakers who have become sober after struggling with not only alcoholism and drug abuse, but gangsterism too.

They first stopped at Percy Mdala where Jarryd Smith and Denzil Moses from 2nd Chance spoke to the learners to motivate them against resorting to drugs, alcohol, and gangsterism as a way to resolve their hardships. The two speakers were followed by Blake Williams, also from 2nd Chance, who performed a hip-hop dance that had the learners screaming and cheering for every move he made.
Once the group from KADC was done at Percy Mdala, they moved on to Knysna Sec, where they had more individually focused, one-on-one sessions with learners.
