‘67 Blankets’ movement busily knitting secret scarves for needy
As the lockdown lingers and winter begins to bite, South Africans who find themselves in need will require warmth and kindness more than ever.
The KnitWits for Madiba are doing what they have done for some years now – picking up needles, crochet hooks and wool to knit and crochet scarves for people who will desperately need them this winter, especially considering the extent to which the coronavirus pandemic has affected many people’s lives.
Handmade scarves will be distributed around the country on July 8 for people to take as they need.
“On Wednesday, July 8, we aim to spread joy and warmth all around our beautiful country,” says philanthropist Carolyn Steyn Parks, founder of the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day initiative.
