Discover Knysna’s Ons Winkel
Knysna’s Ons Winkel on Main Road is not just a treasure trove of finds but also a hub for donating clothes, books, ornaments, and furniture. The driving force behind this charming shop is Cindie van der Walt, who has transformed it into a go-to place on the Garden Route for designer dresses suitable for weddings, evening events, or matric dances—all at a fraction of their original cost.
Opened two years ago by Van der Walt, Ons Winkel boasts a collection that includes stunning pieces from Anél Botha Couture, known for dressing celebrities and Miss South Africa contestants, along with fashion from Jose de Canha Couture and Jacqueline’s Bridal Couture. This vibrant shop offers the unique opportunity to hire an evening dress, cocktail dress, or special occasion outfit for a minimal fee.
Knysna’s Ons Winkel on Main Road is not just a treasure trove of finds
Van der Walt’s journey to Knysna was prompted by personal tragedy. After losing her husband to Covid in 2021, she moved from Nelspruit to the Garden Route with her children, seeking a fresh start. With determination, she quickly secured an apartment and a spacious 125-square-meter venue for Ons Winkel on Main Road. Initially, the shop was nearly empty, but within a year, it flourished with an array of donated items, from clothing bargains to books.
The variety in Ons Winkel is impressive. Donations include everything from false teeth, which are surprisingly in demand, to brand-new black school shoes, which can be a lifeline for financially struggling families. The shop also features ornaments, paintings, shoes, sports gear, jewelry, baby clothes, and even prams. Among the most intriguing items are ‘reborn dolls’ displayed atop a cabinet, resembling a nursery of lifelike babies.
Thanks to Cindie van der Walt, Ons Winkel is not just a shop; it’s a beacon of community spirit and support, offering something for everyone while making a positive impact on the lives of many
