#WalkKnysna – Historical Knysna Walk
The #WalkKnysna event – Historical Knysna Walk was held on Saturday 30th September 2017 and was truly worth every second.
The Heritage Walk was envisaged during 2009 as a tool to promote Knysna’s wonderful history and was done with in concert with the 20 Heritage Plaques that had been installed in Main Street by May 2010.
Whether you are a tourist or local, a two hour walk along Main Street, Knysna, learning about the history of all the historical buildings is definitely a highly recommended activity. Starting from the Tourism Building and ending at the Royal Hotel – the tour followed a part of the historical route, which is presented in this Heritage Walk brochure.
Those who participated in the walk had the great pleasure of embarking on a journey back in time to the late 1800’s and 1900’s. The tour leaders, Philip Caveney and Lorraine Stainer, gave an informative and very interesting breakdown, explaining the setup of Knysna and how everything worked back then.
For more information on some of the heritage buildings found along Main Street. The tour is normally led by volunteers and is free of charge. Donations are always welcome.
If you would like to attend one of the tours, contact the Knysna Historical Society on 044 382 3967 or email.
