Originating in 1983 through the visionary efforts of the late Dick Ginsberg, a local businessperson, and Rose Smith from the Knysna Publicity Office, the Knysna Winter Festival has evolved into a captivating celebration that showcases the very best of Knysna. With events spanning the mystical forests, the enchanting Knysna lagoon, and the picturesque countryside, the festival truly encapsulates the essence of this remarkable destination.

Prepare for pulse-pounding excitement with the Knysna Cycle Tour (June 30th to July 2nd) and the SPAR Knysna Forest Marathon (July 8th), two highly anticipated anchor events that have become beloved fixtures on the South African cycling and running calendars. This year’s Cycle Tour promises an off-road adventure of epic proportions, while the Forest Marathon, known for its unparalleled allure, kicks off in the early morning amidst the breathtaking Knysna Forest.
But that’s not all—the festival grounds will also host a multitude of thrilling events throughout the ten-day extravaganza, including trail runs, the Knysna Yacht Club Canoe Race, the Oyster Betterball Golf championship, Padel Tournaments, and the Pezula Sunset Wine Run. For food enthusiasts, the festival presents a cornucopia of delectable oysters, tantalizing seafood dishes, tea and spice tastings, and the unmissable Knysna Wine Festival, where South Africa’s finest wines take center stage.
