Sedgefield Heritage Day Craft Beer and Braai Festival hailed a success

This year’s annual Sedgefield Heritage Day Craft Beer and Braai Festival hosted by the Sedgefield Lions was a great success despite the organisers having to move the event at the last minute.

The new venue at Scarab Village turned out to be the perfect setting.

Eleven teams showed off their culinary braai skills while competing for the much coveted R10 000 prize money and the title of Heritage Day Braai Master 2017.

In true South African style, the atmosphere on the day was relaxed, friendly and inviting.

There was something for everybody with games, jumping castles, face painting, and entertainment by Milo the Clown for children. Adults sipped on Sedgefield Craft Beer, Mitchell’s beer, Zeppelin (a guest brewer from Pretoria), Delheim and N2RS wines, while being entertained by Garden Route musicians Keezee, Gaston, and Heather Walters who performed for free for the charity.

In the end it was the SKAL team that walked away with the title for their delicious, melt in the mouth marinated kudu fillet. Second prize went to the Slow Go Go Girls and third prize to “The Togs” – father and son team Ian and Warren Fleming.

Profits from the event will assist Sedgefield Lions with the excellent work they do in the community. In true SKAL style, the winning team’s prize money will go to help victims of the recent earthquake and hurricane Irma in Mexico as Skal Mexico had supported fire victims in the Garden Route recently.
