An entire day dedicated to seafood
Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival will be spoiling all seafood lovers with a brand new event, Seafood Wednesday.
Many restaurants in and around Greater Knysna will be showcasing their best seafood dishes during the Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival’s Seafood Wednesday on July 6 from 11:00 – 17:00.
Seafood lovers will be spoilt for choice on the Festival’s Seafood Trail, where they can enjoy a myriad of delicious seafood dishes throughout the day.
34` South – The Market at the Knysna Quays will be showing off with Linefish Espatada – Skewered Dorado, roasted peppers and onion, lightly grilled then drizzled with garlic butter. This will be served with savoury rice and chunky tomato & cucumber salad. Diners will further enjoy a complimentary glass of Leopards Leap Lookout white or red wine, all for a mere R68.00.
Still at the Knysna Quays, Drydock seafood trail followers will pay R49 for fried calamari rings – Crumbed calamari rings served with savoury rice or chips and Tartare sauce.
At the upper level of Knysna Quays O’Pescador is waiting to spoil their Seafood Wednesday patrons with their freshly caught linefish of the day. Grilled and served with a Mediterranean Salsa and prawns for R89.
Along Waterfront Drive is the Cruise Café. Here seafood lovers will be served dainty individual small bowled seafood delights, presented on a wooden board designed to tease the taste buds. This will include a mini mussel pot, crumbed squid heads, a heart-warming Laksa curry bowl and a light delicate snoek pate served with ‘King Singa’s’ freshly baked ciabatta – R180.
For Freshline Fisheries that is on the corner of Long and Waterfront Drive (behind Tait Marine), seafood is second nature. They will be offering a choice of: Kingklip, Yellow tail or Dorado: grilled or Weskus Braai, with chips or Mediterranean side salad for R99.95. Fresh Line caught Hake: either grilled with lemon & garlic butter, or crispy deep dry with chips & tartar sauce – small, 150gm Hake – R49.95, large, 250gm Hake – R75.50.
Seafood lovers can also enjoy a Seafood Platter – 150mg Kingklip, 150gm Dorado, 150gm Hake, 4x Mussels, 150gm Calamari Fingers, Freshline spicy rice or chips, salad garnish, and Freshline`s tartar – R189.00. These specials will be available from 11:00 till closing. This venue is not licensed and patrons may bring their own alcoholic drinks (no corkage charged).
On Thesen Island, Sirocco Restaurant will be offering their Seafood Trail diners a Seafood Pizza at R62 – Mussels, Calamari and fresh linefish on a thin base pizza with homemade tomato sauce and herbs, smothered with mozzarella cheese.
Their neighbours, Tapas and Oysters will offer seafood trail followers their Festival Mussels at R26 – Mussels tossed in cream, garlic and herb sauce served Tapas style with Rosemary and Rock-salt Baguette for dipping.
Thesen Islands’ famous Turbine Hotel’s Island Café will be offering a lunch and dinner Seafood platter at R225 per person and R450 per couple.
Chaplin’s in Woodmill Lane will spoil their patrons with their famous fish & chips with a free glass of wine for R59.
Mon Petit Pain in Hedge Street joins the seafood trail by offering their Fishy Wednesday – Scrambled eggs with trout on a croissant; Spanish Fish soup; Malayan Currie Fish Pot with savoury rice and salsa
The PnP Oysters tent at the Festival Pavilion will be offering six cultivated medium oysters for R55, available throughout Seafood Wednesday.
Situated at the famous Knysna Heads overlooking the estuary is the Easthead Café. Their Seafood Wednesday dishes will consist of Fresh Hake & Chips. Line caught hake, deep fried or grilled – served with rustic fries & tartar sauce for R 80, as well as a Cape Malay Seafood Curry – A selection of sustainable seafood served with roasted coconut pickle, yoghurt, coriander & basmati rice – R 135.
The Terrace Restaurant at the River Club’s seafood trail special is their famous Fish & homemade Chips with a free glass of wine, costing R59.
Knysna’s much-loved The Bell at Belvidere will be awaiting their Seafood Wednesday guests with a pan-fried Cape yellowtail with Salsa Verde new potatoes – R95.
Café Z situated at Conrad Pezula Resort & Spa has decided upon a starter -Smoked fynbos and deep water hake tartare, lime, ginger and green tea dressing at R70 and a Main Course – “Green Pea and Ham” pan roasted Kingklip in pancetta, on baby leeks with garden pea Velouté at R165 as their special in celebration of Seafood Wednesday.
Sedgefield’s Mr Kaai on the corner of Uil and Kingfisher streets will offer their Hake – deep fried or grilled, savoury rice or chips, calamari, tartare sauce and a salad at R95.00. This special is also offered as a take away. Mr Kaai is also not licensed but patrons are invited to bring their own alcoholic drinks (no corkage charged).
Once participating Seafood Wednesday trail restaurants specials end at 17:00 the Festival Pavilion will become a hive of activity with the SASSI Fish Braai, Oyster Shucking and Eating competitions as well as the Pick n Pay Flavours of Knysna served with Tabasco Sauce.
