We thank all the wonderful people who have come alongside the Haven to assist in caring for the children who have been taken into care by the social services due to severe neglected, abandonment and/ or abuse.

There are also many challenges to meet, but Nelly has a strong gifting with children, and with God’s help and with your assistance we can meet these.

We provide full time care for children taken into alternative care by the Department of Social Development due to severe neglect, abandonment or abuse.

Counselling is given when needed, and outside expert assistance sought when necessary, occupational therapy is part of the daily programme due to developmental issues many of the children have due to their poor starts in life.

The children are brought back into the education system, and encouraged in life skills and to take their education as high as they can go.

A loving disciplined family home environment is offered so that these children can become valued and responsible members of society.

Our main project is to find land available for us to buy and funding to do so, then to build dedicated premises for the foster and safe house children to enable us to provide a better service to the community in caring for the children in need.

We would love assistance in this project, whether to help with land negotiation, sourcing funding, drawing plans, costing plans, sourcing donation of materials, overseeing work and so on.

Home Schooling: educational assistance would be appreciated, such as a sponsorship for the R8000 Brainline home schooling curriculum to help with gaps in schooling, or tutor assistance using this curriculum.

Groceries: we would wish to extend the number of valued and dedicated donors who either donate money each month for living costs, or give particular groceries, baby formula, nappies or whatever.

This can be as small as R20 a month, or rental of R3000 a month could be sponsored. It is all appreciated and makes a difference.

The vision:

To transform the child environment so that he/she can experience the warmth of a home and to integrate back into school so that in turn he/she can/will offer a positive input in our society. We want to maintain a balance: the children need to be cared for in spirit, soul and body.

The mission:

1. To let the children be children again.
2. To restore their dignity as human beings and see themselves as God sees them.
3. Channel the desire of creating a better future into useful qualities.

To impress discipline by means of participation in house rules and duties.

The goal is to give the children the love they never knew and experienced. To love them with the love of the Lord, and restore them to BE LIKE CHILDREN again. And become valuable members of the society.

These children have had very poor starts to life, and some of them were so ill or underdeveloped on admission that it takes years to catch up to “normal” physical development.

They can very easily slip back , both physically and mentally, if not given a lot of care and attention. We feel therefore that we are a good cause to support so that these children are given the care and all round attention to body mind and spirit, that they can be productive and contributing members of society rather than a burden on the system.

We do have some volunteers to help with homework, taking art classes and so on, but would always appreciate more.

Volunteers can assist with child care, or with development skills for the older children of various kinds. We would MOST especially love someone or some people to assist in fund raising by organising events and moving ideas for fund raising forward.

We are pleased that the Jeffreys Bay Baptist Church partners with our organisation, and that we have a close liaison with another charity, Timion, and have some ties with Rotary from time to time as well as with other churches such as the Methodist church.

The needs are many and help is welcome.

Yes.

What % of my donation does the organisation receive?

100% though for donations via GivenGain, Greater Good etc there is a small commission for administration taken by them.

How will my donation be used?

The living costs of the children will be met and accounts are reported openly monthly and you can ask for a copy. There is rent to pay, electric and water etc., food, consumables such as nappies, cleaning materials, school supplies, medical supplies and so on. You can designate if you want the donation to go to a specific living cost, or want it retained for the building project.
