Emma and Dylan to represent SA
JEFFREYS BAY surfers Dylan Lightfoot and Emma Smith have been included in a powerful squad of 20-and-under surfers to represent South Africa at the Florida/SC ASP World Junior Championships to be held at Joaquina Beach in Santa Catarina, Brazil, from Oct 27 to Nov 5.
Dylan earned his place in the line-up after posting a string of impressive results while competing in ASP Prime and Star rated events this year. Emma recently claimed the title of u/20 South African Surfing Champion.
Five men and two women from South Africa will compete against North and South America, Europe, Australasia, Hawaii and Japan.
The men’s squad is headed by Diran Zakarian and includes Slade Prestwick, Dylan, David van Zyl and Michael February.
The women in the squad are experienced international campaigners Bianca Buitendag and Emma.
The annual ASP World Junior Championships is considered a major stepping stone to a successful professional surfing career. Previous winners includes Andy Irons, Joel Parkinson, Jordy Smith, Sally Fitzgibbons, Pauline Ado and Laura Enever amongst others.
The women’s event will take place from Oct 27 through Nov 3 with the men’s event scheduled for Oct 29 through Nov.
