Buffs to help keep learners safe from Covid-19
Kouga Municipality is helping to look after the health of staff and learners at Jeffreys Bay Comprehensive High School.
Kouga Speaker, Hattingh Bornman, last week delivered 266 Covid-19 face buffs to the acting school principal, Nomxolisi Makayi. Bornman, who is also the ward councillor for the school, said the buffs had been purchased through the municipality’s Ward Development Fund.
“The buffs will be distributed to staff and learners to wear at school as part of the institution’s safety precautions against Covid-19,” he said.
Makayi thanked the municipality for the buffs, as well as for helping to decontaminate the school ahead of the matrics’ return in June.
“It shows you have the hearts of leaders. You are looking at the future of the children and care about their betterment,” she said.
She said the school’s 110 grade 12 learners were back at class and that preparations were underway for the return of the other grades.
Bornman said he hoped the comfy buffs would make it easier and more appealing for learners to wear masks when in class or in public, as required by the Covid-19 regulations.
“The best way to fight the coronavirus is to follow the basic safety precautions,” he encouraged.
“Avoid leaving home. If you must, wear a mask and maintain social distancing, wash your hands regularly and don’t touch your face with unwashed hands.”
He said the municipality would continue working with J’Bay Comprehensive and other Kouga schools to help them through the unusual times brought about by Covid-19.
