Appeal for funds
My name is Frank Nunan of Write-On Publishing, which is a St-Francis-based publishing facilitator, and apart from publishing the books of local authors such as Bartle Logie, I have also produced “The Sea Shells of Jeffreys Bas”, the reproduction of the definitive book by Professor Douw, which is available from the Sea Shell Museum. I am also a former resident of Jeffreys Bay.
This time I am producing a coffee table-type, full-colour landscape A4 book called “Impressions of Jeffreys Bay” which will be a photographic journey through the “Town of the Year”. However, there is a slight twist in that I invited members of the public to submit pictures for possible inclusion in the book. I set up a website (http://photojbay.writeonpublishing.co.za) and invited submissions.
The site has to date received almost 120 pictures, which is most gratifying! Obviously, not all of them will be suitable for the book, and I have reserved the right to include pictures other than those submitted through the website.
The concept has been well-received and there is a great deal of awareness of the book out there, thanks to Social Media. The concept also has the blessing and support of Jeffreys Bay Tourism and Kouga Express.
In keeping with my philosophy of trying to benefit local causes with the local work I do, I have decided to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book to the Jeffreys Bay recycling Project, specifically for the purchase of school supplies for the children.
Monique Basson of the Kouga Express is part of my selection panel for pictures, as is his excellency Mzuvukile Maqetuka, former South African ambassador to Algeria, and now an author resident in Jeffreys Bay. He is the inspiration for the book, having produced a similar one for his hometown of Graaff Reinet.
Here’s the rub! In order to produce a book of the quality that the concept – and the town – deserves, and still keep its price in an acceptable range, I am looking for your financial assistance to help fund the production of the book.
In discussion with my “panel’, it was agreed that it would be inappropriate to carry traditional advertising in the book, so we have come up with the following sponsorship concept:
1. A picture of the sponsor company/business’ premises (or other suitable picture of the sponsor’s choice) will be included in the book, discreetly and with no commercial message other than the signage on the premises.
2. A Sponsor Acknowledgement page or pages will be added at the back of the book, with each sponsor’s name, contact details and, where appropriate, logo.
3. Sponsors will get one copy of the book as part of the package.
4. Sponsors also have the opportunity of purchasing copies of the book at the “wholesale” price of R275 a copy (proposed “retail” price R400).
The minimum cost for this sponsorship is R1000, although you are of course free to sponsor a greater amount should you so wish.
We envision an initial print run of 100 – 200 books.
I am currently, with the other selectors, choosing the pictures for inclusion in the book, and hope to have it printed by the middle of December, for obvious reasons, so time is of the essence.
Thanking you for your support in anticipation.
I look forward to hearing from you
