Hlokomela Tours
Hlokomela Tours, one of the non-profit Organisation Hlokomela’s fundraising initiatives, offers visitors to the Kruger to Canyons area an alternative experience for those interested in the communities and the structures that support the local wildlife tourism industry.
Hlokomela Tours offers a unique opportunity for visitors to support and experience first hand Hlokomela and all its projects, learn more about the agricultural activities of the area and their relation to the tourism industry, and to leave this beautiful little town with a better understanding of “Caring Hoedspruit”.
Fia Lööf van Zyl, our Tour Coordinator, will take you on a +- 3-hour tour of Hlokomela’s main operational sites, starting at Hlokomela Main Clinic and Women’s Clinic which is located 19km from Hoedspruit Town on the R527 towards Lydenburg. She will share information about Hlokomela; what we do, why we do it, and for who it is.
Fia will introduce guests to the passionate clinic staff, who will also share their stories about Hlokomela and its work. The next stop is Richmond Crèche, one of the farm crèches in the area located at a typical farmworker village.
The third stop on the tour is the Hlokomela Herb Garden and one of Hlokomela’s income-generating projects. Here guests will be taken around the garden; to taste, feel and smell the lovely fresh herbs. Refreshing herbal drinks will also be served here and guests will get the opportunity to also explore the world’s largest spekboom maze.
The last stop is the Hlokomela Market, from where we run a Sewing Project and a Charity Shop aimed at farmworkers. At the last two stops, there will be Hlokomela products for sale including herbal syrups, soft toy elephants, fabric bags, and much more.
