Mountain Biking In The Overberg | Thandi-Paul Cluver MTB Trails
Mountain biking routes in the Overberg are probably some of the best in the world, Grabouw being a much loved mountain biking destination for avid bikers. The region is well liked due to the routes that take you through fynbos covered mountains, along rivers and through forests.
The Thandi-Paul Cluver has two looping routes on offer. Riders will do the Thandi route first and finish off with the Paul Cluver Route. There is a great bmx track for kids too!
The route is a moderate 32 KM long that will take between 2 and 3 hours to complete. Bikers can expect single tracks along with a mix of gravel roads.
The configuration of tracks is as follows:
Thandi route: 10KM – starting at Thandi Farm Stall
Paul Cluver route: 20KM – starting at Paul Cluver Wine Estate
There are four routes on offer for cyclists:
Black: The route is 32km long with a mix of single tracks, jeep tracks and the “Pofadder”. The “Pofadder” is a 100m wooden mountain biking trail, taking riders in and out between rocks, a waterfall and over a river.
Red: The red route is 32km, but does not include the technical parts.
Blue: Is a 8KM track found along the Thandi Route. The track is easy and simple.
Green: The green route is an easy 4KM trail and has no single tracks.
*Note: There is full cellphone reception along the routes.
In order to access any one of these routes you can purchase a day pass for R20 if you are a PPA member. Non-members will pay R40. A year pass can be purchased for R150 for PPA members, R 300 for non-members.
The Thandi Farm Stall is a great place to relax after tackling any one of the above mentioned routes. If you are looking to further your mountain biking experience in Grabouw pop into Paul Clauver Wine Estate and taste some wine.
