Hermanus is an amazing, beautiful town! With the long stretch of coastline and surrounding mountains, there are plenty of mountain biking trails in Hermanus.

Mountain bikers have breezy, easy trails along forest routes or challenging paths over hills, jeep track, gravel, and tar. An added bonus, they all have stunning views of the ocean and more!

There are four routes on offer in the Hemel en Aarde vicinity. The tracks range in difficulty so everybody is welcome. The routes will take you on a cruise through vineyards, along rivers, and over mountains.

Green route:

Easy and great for those new to mountain biking. This route is nontechnical and is made up of tar and gravel sections.

Distance: 5 KM

Time: 30 minutes to 1 hour

Blue Route:

This route is well suited to beginners who are building their fitness and stamina and for the more experienced mountain biker.

Distance: 15 KM

Time: 1 to 2 hours long.

Red Route:

Tough route for experienced mountain bikers. The route is made up of gravel and tar, hills and single track.

Distance: 25 KM

Time: 2 to 4 hours long.

Black Route:

A lot more hills that the red route, tough and challenging. Perfect for experienced bikers. The route is compromised of gravel, tar and jeep track.

Distance: 35 KM

Time: 3 to 5 hours long.

The fee structure is:

Day Permit

R40 per day for non-PPA members

R20 per day for PPA members

R30 refundable deposit for temporary bike board

Annual Permit

R300 per year for non-PPA members

R150 per year for PPA members

The Rules:

1. Mountain biking on the trail is at your own risk.

2. Do not litter.

3. Stayed on the course, all routes are clearly marked.

4. Do not smoke or light fires.

5. No vehicle of any kind is permitted on the mountain biking trail.

6. Read the liability disclaimer and waiver of claims on the back of your permit.

7. All the above-mentioned rules and regulations will be enforced by the marshals and immediate action will be taken against those who do not comply.
