Mountain Biking In Hermanus | Fernkloof Nature Reserve Trail
Mountain biking in Hermanus is growing each day and now with the Pedal Power Association funding the development of further tracks bikers can expect great things to start happening. The mountain biking trails in Hermanus are unique in that they have incredible views of Walker Bay, the mountain ranges and various awarding winning wine estates. Trails meander along the coast and through the Hemel en Aarde valley, variety is key and Hermanus has it.
The Fernkloof Nature Reserve has a 17 KM circular, jeep track route. There are however a few single track sections along the route. There are sandy and rocky sections thrown in to the mix with a few tar links.
Bikers can expect to travel along the outskirts of Hermanus but mostly you will be dashing through fynbos covered slopes backed by spectacular views.
Bikes can be hired from Hermanus Cycles. Remember to bring your own helmet along.
The route will take you roughly 2 hours to complete and is best suited for those who know the in’s and out’s of mountain biking and trail riding. The starting point is at the gates of Fernkloof and it is public access. Bear in mind that the trails are shared by hikers and their pets, so be careful around the corners and watch your speed.
Maps of the route can be collected at Hermanus Cycles.
