Go Wine Tasting And Horse Riding In Botrivier

Botrivier is a small hamlet situated just after Houw Hoek and heading in the direction of Hermanus. 

Many people visiting the area are surprised at how much this tiny town has to offer. From wine tasting to horse riding in Botrivier, this little town packs an outdoor punch, there are plenty of things to do in Botrivier!

A Lot To Offer…

Horse RidingThe town was originally a bartering point between the Khoi-Khoi tribes and the European settlers. The name Botrivier is derived from the Afrikaans word botter (butter is butter in English) The Khoi bartered with butter, hence the name Botrivier. The name stayed and the river now flows down into a large lagoon that opens up to the sea.

Botriver is a place to unwind and to relax. Avid horse riders wanting to go horse riding in the Overberg are in luck. The Klein Paradys Equestrian Centre offers out rides in the Sunday Roastsurrounding countryside and beaches. While on an outride you might catch sight of South Africa’s only herd of wild horses.

The place is growing gradually thanks to the award-winning wine estates setting up shop. Wine tasting in Botrivier is a pleasure, the farms are all situated close by to one another and all offer superb wines, sold at cellar door prices. Gabrielskloof Wine Estate has a deli and visitors can sample their homegrown olives and buy handcrafted items.

The Shuntin ShedIf you are looking at eating out in Botrivier, there is a very popular restaurant that sells pizza and hosts live bands. The Shuntin Shed in Botrivier has become well known amongst locals and visitors to the town. Delicious Sunday roasts and buffet are readily available at the Bot River Hotel, so come hungry.

For a more country feel pop into the Dassiesfontein Farm Stall in Caledon. It is in an old country barn that has been converted into a bustling restaurant and amazing curio store. Lavender SoapEach room or stable as it once was has a curio shop selling various uniquely South African items. There is nothing you won’t find on sale!
