A Little Luxury In Caledon
Caledon is considered to be another country town on the N2, giving passers-by no reason to stop.
However, you are greatly encouraged to take a detour and explore the capital of the Overberg! There are hot springs, a casino and flyfishing all in Caledon for passing visitors to come and enjoy!
Expect the unexpected…
This town originated because of the natural hot springs that occur on the slopes of the Klein Swartberg Mountains. The hot springs now form part of the Caledon Casino Hotel and Spa. A large, luxurious establishment offering guests the opportunity to soak up the heat and partake in a bit of pampering and gambling.
To follow up on the town’s history swing by the Caledon Museum and see how the area developed over the ages.
Visit the Caledon Wildflower Reserve. There is a 10 KM hiking trail that takes you to the summit of the Swartberg Mountain.
The trail takes you through fynbos covered slopes, over bridges and rolling green lawns. Pack a picnic and break for a snack at one of the many allocated spots along the way.
Eating out in Caledon is well worth it as there are many farm stalls and rustic restaurants scattered throughout the town. Tour the Van Brakel Farm Stall in Caledon selling “boere kitch” items much to the delight of tourists and locals. They also serve breakfasts and lunches, with a South African twist!
Fly fishing in the Overberg will meet the fancy of any freshwater fisherman. Nearby dams are stocked full of quality trout and carp. Perfect your cast or teach your partner the art of fly fishing.
