Walk for kids
Participants walked through the beautiful town of Onrus and along the coastal path to raise funds for a worthy cause. HERMANUS – A group of cheerful walkers managed to raise more than R10 000 for a children’s home in Zwelihle.
On Saturday 4 September, The Fitness Project Bootcampers team and their immediate families, friends and residents of Onrus and Hermanus joined in a Spar women’s walk of just over 6 km to raise funds for Izibusiso Home, a children’s home, a non-government-funded organisation in Zwelihle.
This fundraiser was the brainchild of The Fitness Project owner Riette Creighton, who shared her initiative with her Bootcamp members. They all agreed that this is a great initiative to make a difference, share their love and show support for this worthy cause.
They started at the Coffee Corner Cafe in Onrus and headed north up Main Road towards Vermont, where they turned down towards the coastal path and passed Jan Rabie s Pool and Davies Pool along the Onrus coastline, with its breathtaking views, before returning to the Coffee Corner Cafe for well-deserved coffee and pancakes.
Creighton, reports the 6 km walk raised over RIO 000 for the charity.
“It was a lovely walk and we all felt we had done something positive to help this worthy cause,” she said.
“It’s amazing how a small community can rise up to the occasion to be part of this fun-filled activity to stay healthy and reach out to those who need it the most.
“I would like to thank every person that was involved, even though some could not be there they supported our worthy cause in other ways. To my boot campers, thank you for all your support and additional ideas.”
The Fitness Project Bootcampers, who were dressed like “women Viking warriors” are aiming to make this initiative a bi-monthly event to assist more organisations such as Izibusiso.
