Theewaterskloof Local Municipality Outbreak of swine fever and rabies in neighbourhood Municipalities
Please note that there is currently an outbreak of African swine fever in the Grabouw and Botrivier areas.
Cases of rabies and avian flu have also been detected in neighbouring municipalities but do NOT affect the Theewaterskloof municipal area at the moment. This is merely a warning to alert the public of the risk that it might spread to the Theewaterskloof area, so please be aware and alert.
We would like to caution communities and encourage them to take all the necessary actions to ensure that no animal carcasses be dumped or buried at any municipal solid waste dumping facility in the Theewaterskloof areas. This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to protect the community and ensure the safety of everyone in the municipal area.
It is illegal and against legislation to dump or bury any infectious animal carcass at a municipal solid waste dumping facility.
Please take note that we are currently in the process of finding alternative solutions for the safe disposal of infectious animal carcasses.
