Over the Easter weekend, Panthera Africa, a big cat sanctuary, opened its doors just outside Stanford. Home to two leopard, caracal, two Bengal tigers and five lion, including the majestic Neptune aka “Skapie”, this haven is sure to delight visitors to the region with its focus on education around these big cats.
“Stanford Tourism is extremely proud of Panthera Africa and the work they are doing for conservation,” says the village’s Tourism Manager, Chantel Oosthuysen, “Panthera not only creates awareness about the conditions big cats in captivity face worldwide, but also offers a safe haven for captive bred big cats where they will be protected and prosper for the remainder of their lives.”
Panthera Africa offer two options for those wanting to get a closer look –
Educational visits – Wednesdays to Monday, 10am and 3pm. Price: R 190 per adult, R 120 per child (under 13)
Feeding & Enrichments visits – pre-booking essential. Time most likely to be in the morning or in the afternoon. Price: R 290 for adults. No children under 16 allowed.
