New Beginnings:
An optimistic spirit of Renewal and Co-operation is sweeping through South Africa after the State of the Nation address by the new State President Cyril Ramaphoza on 16th February. Business should benefit since his main aim is to improve the economy. The Rand value is already increasing rapidly. A Job Summit and a million internships are on the cards, and Government is looking for business partners. We’ll keep you updated regarding opportunities.
The new Mayor of the Overstrand, Alderman Dudley Coetzee, was elected on 11th February. In a newspaper interview, he also stated that the main thrust of his term in office will be to attract business to the region that will employ locals. He will address the Chamber at our next event on 14th March at Arabella Hotel & Spa.
The Hermanus Business Chamber is also working closely with Cape Whale Coast Tourism and the Western Cape Government’s Department of Economic Development and Tourism on creating opportunities, and Journey to Service Excellence Workshops are being planned for employees and managers, sponsored by DEDAT. We’ll keep you updated.
Business Networking Breakfast:
Lively Networking and Collaboration were evident at the Chamber’s Networking Breakfast at The Daily Coffee Cafe in Whale Coast Mall on 15th February. The Restaurant accommodated about 50 business people with a delicious breakfast and everybody enjoyed a pleasant hour together.
Closer collaboration between the Business Sector, the Overstrand Municipality and Overstrand Tourism will work towards improving the local economy. This was confirmed by Soli Madikane, Manager of the Local Economic Development Department, and Frieda Lloyd, Manager of Overstrand Tourism.
The Chamber holds frequent networking sessions where local business people can introduce themselves and interact in a pleasant social atmosphere at a breakfast or cocktail event.
The next one will be a Cocktail Event on Wednesday 14th March from 17:30 for 18:00 till 20:00 at Arabella Hotel & Spa. It will be combined with an optional round of 9 holes golf at the discount price of R499 per player, and 50% discount accommodation for Chamber members only during March. Proof of payment for membership will be needed to qualify. For more information, e-mail Alta at ceo@hermanuschamber.co.za, or phone 028-3151619.
