Hugo makes the Boland team
The Hermanus Cricket Academy recently announced that Monique Hugo has been included in the Boland u-19 girls team.
Jared Wilson, who founded Hermanus Cricket Academy, confirmed Hugo will participate in the Cricket South Africa u-19 girls tournament in December in Stellenbosch.
He said: “Monique has been working with the academy almost since the start and this achievement is a clear indication of all her hard work and dedication put into training.”
The academy is led by Cricket South Africa level-3 professional coach Deon Smith. His understanding and knowledge of the game is of a high calibre, and it was felt the cricketing community needed someone like him to up the standard of cricket in the region.
“Girl’s cricket is our new project. We have developed our first-ever ladies cricket team at Hermanus Cricket Club. Hermanus High School is continuing with their amazing project there with over 30 girls and Curro Hermanus as well.”
He was also pleased to announce that the academy is officially launching the first-ever girls-only cricket academy in Hermanus.
“It will take place every Friday from 16:00-17:30 at Hermanus Cricket Club. All led by women and girls cricket lead coach, Stephan Theunissen who holds a CSA level 2 qualification.”
