High School Students Save Paraglider Trapped in Tree
The Heroic Rescue: Hermanus High School Students Save Paraglider Trapped in Towering Bluegum Tree
Hermanus High School students demonstrated exceptional bravery and resourcefulness when they successfully rescued a paraglider who had become entangled in a towering bluegum tree near their school in the Western Cape this week.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, causing immediate action from both staff and students. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the school promptly contacted emergency services while several teachers, namely Mavis de Villiers, Deon Kühn, Jacques Mangiagalli, Dayne Nel, and Gitte Schulenburg, sprang into action.
Realizing that the paraglider was at an unreachable height for any conventional ladder in town, these dedicated educators swiftly gathered a group of students to aid in the rescue operation. While waiting for the arrival of the emergency services, the students worked together under the guidance of their teachers.
Principal Mike Smuts expressed immense pride in the learners and teachers involved, commending their exceptional presence of mind and quick decision-making that ultimately ensured the paraglider’s safe retrieval.
