Hermanus parkrun is back!
The air was filled with excitement on Saturday morning as avid runners and walking enthusiasts arrived for the first Hermanus parkrun in almost two years.
Not even the rain could dampen the mood as over 130 people some with dogs from HAWS and some with dogs of their own met at 08:00 at the start line above SA Forest Adventures on Camphill Road in Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.
Participants and volunteers had been frustrated at not being able to enjoy their weekly parkrun after the event was suspended due to the national lockdown in March 2020. A short while after exercise was allowed again, the (not)parkrun a virtual walk/run was begun in order to give regular park runners a way to still participate and dock their times.
Hermanus parkrun has put measures in place to ensure that the event is as safe as possible while still being enjoyable. The following protocols must be observed:
• When waiting for the start, masks must be worn
• While running/walking on your own or with people from the same household masks may be removed
• When entering the finish tunnel, masks must be worn
• Minimum physical contact and social distancing to apply at all times
• Any sanitising required will be the responsibility of the individual
Co-Event Director of Hermanus parkrun Dudley Meyer, says: ‘The volunteers will do all in their power to make the event as pleasant as possible for all. The traditional loud cheering and high fives will have to be curbed for now – very difficult for the rowdy Hermanus volunteers! We are thankful to the landowners – both Overstrand Training Institute and Camphill for allowing us access to their properties for the parkrun’.
Hermanus parkrun takes place every Saturday and the run starts at 08:00 sharp. Parking is available next to SA Forest Adventures in Camphill Road, Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Please make sure that you follow protocols.
Whether you want to clock your best run time or just amble along the beautiful 5km route, the Hermanus parkrun is open to people of all ages. See you there! – Taylum Meyer
