Hermanus High School excels in District Matric Awards 2019
After the 2019 matric results were released it was announced that the Western Cape Education Department had produced the fourth-highest matric provincial results in the country with the Northern Cape in third, Gauteng in second and the Free State in first.
Together with Metro-North, the Overberg District was ranked as the top-performing district in the province.
While the Western Province was not in the top three, it is still reassuring to note that the Western Cape Education Department continues to have the highest retention rate in the country. The retention rate is measured by the number of matric pupils in 2019 who passed their matric exams compared to the number of pupils who were in Grade 10 in 2017. It is wonderful to know that the Western Cape Education Department and the Overberg District remain top-performing educational organisations in the country.
On Saturday 17 January, the Overberg Education District held its annual awards ceremony for the matric results of 2019. The award for excellence is given to one school in the district that produced the highest number of pupils passing the subject in 2019. The award for improvement is given to one school in the district that showed the greatest increase in the number of pupils passing the subject in 2019, compared to their performance in 2018.
