Fernkloof officer goes the extra mile
A member of the Hermanus Public Protection (HPP) has been praised by a local resident for going the extra mile recently.
According to a post that appeared on the Facebook page for Hermanus Tourism, the resident had visited the Fernkloof Nature Reserve with a group of people. It seems that the resident had accidentally dropped an expensive pair of binoculars when getting out of their vehicle in the parking area, before starting their day’s hike through the Reserve.
“HPP officers are deployed across the entire Hermanus CID area, to look after the safety and security of all visitors and residents. One of the officers, Sicelo May, was on patrol in the area where the visitor parked his car on the day in question,” explains Marius Boshoff, Hermanus branch manager for Fidelity ADT.
“Officer May was moving past the parking area and noticed the binoculars on the ground and decided to pick it up and hold onto it for safekeeping so that it could be hopefully returned to its rightful owner.”
Boshoff says the officer waited till later in the day when the hiking party returned to their parked vehicle, to ask if the binoculars belonged to anyone in the group.
“The owner writes in the Facebook post how delighted they all were to see officer May waiting for them with the missing item,” says Boshoff.
“I am very proud of officer May for his diligent action in this case. It shows that the HPP team is willing to go the extra mile, and I thank him for making us all proud to have him as a member of our team.
HPP is managed and staffed by Fidelity ADT.
