Enlighten Trust Orchestra makes its debut at Fynarts
The newly formed Enlighten Trust Orchestra (ESO) will have its debut performance on 16 June (Youth Day) at the FynArts Festival.
They will perform in the Grobbelaar Hall at the Hermanus Dutch Reformed Church at 12:30.
Currently, ESO consists of 28 members-children, youth and a number of adults.
According to Magriet Peter, Enlighten Education Trust manager, this is an Overberg regional orchestra represented by learners from Hermanus High, Hawston Secondary, Overberg High, Hermanus Primary, Curro Hermanus, Bosko Christiaan School, Generations Hermanus and Applewood School in Grabouw. The members rehearse on a regular basis at the Enlighten Education Trust centre where they have the facilities and infrastructure to accommodate such an orchestra.
“The mission of ESO is to create a community of young musicians, enriching their lives and the lives of their families, schools, communities, and beyond, through the study and performance of excellent music,” said Peter.
“As ESO forms part of the Enlighten Music Project, we would very much like to see it become an on-going developmental project with training and performances throughout the year, establishing itself as a feature on the Arts Calendar of the Overberg. Four performances are being planned.”
Jasmine Banson (piano), Kate van Zyl (saxophone), Alianna Isaacs (cello), Landre Botma and Rene-Lee Thomas (violin), Neliswa Mbiko (soprano) and Tobias Kotze are the seven soloists who will perform with the orchestra at their debut performance.
Hein Attwood is the conductor of the orchestra.
