Enhancement of Ablution Facilities at Onrus Beach
Onrus Beach, situated in Hermanus, is renowned as a favored destination for beachgoers and surf enthusiasts alike. Holding the prestigious title of a Blue Flag beach, particularly during the bustling holiday season of December and January, it solidifies Onrus as a globally recognized holiday hotspot.
The Overstrand Municipality, steadfast in its commitment to enhancing community facilities, has embarked on a project to revamp the aging ablution block at Onrus Beach. This endeavor is already in full swing and progressing effectively.
The comprehensive upgrade will be executed in two distinct phases, spanning across a span of two years.
Phase 1 Enhancements: This initial phase, projected to reach completion prior to the onset of the spring and summer seasons, entails a thorough rejuvenation of the existing facilities. Key improvements encompass the refurbishment of toilets, urinals, and hand washbasins. Consequently, visitors can expect fully functional amenities to be at their disposal right from the commencement of these vibrant seasons.
Phase 2 Expansion: The subsequent stage of the project promises to bring about a host of additional conveniences. Foreseen developments include the installation of specialized facilities to accommodate individuals with disabilities, the incorporation of modern shower facilities, the establishment of a nappy changing area, and the implementation of a robust concrete roof. Furthermore, a notable inclusion in this phase is the construction of a brand-new lifeguard tower, enhancing safety measures along the shoreline. However, the realization of Phase 2 hinges upon the availability of capital funding within forthcoming fiscal years.
