Curro highs Grade 12 class gets
Rick Marais Curro Hermanus High’s Grade 12 class of 2019 achieved an impressive 100% pass rate.
Headmaster Pierre van der Westhuizen says what made this group of 19 learners special is that they were the school’s first matrics that started at Curo from Grade 8 and the first group of learners who enrolled in Grade 8.
“As a school, we are very proud of the performance of our 2019 matric class,” he said. “The learners worked hard over a long period to obtain these excellent results. We also appreciate the dedication of our skilled and motivated teaching staff who worked tirelessly to prepare our learners for their final exams and for their future studies.”
Not only does this class have a 100% pass rate, but they also have a 100% tertiary exemption.
“Ninety-five percent of the learners had bachelor’s passes, the rest diploma,” the head continued. “The class average was 70,2% and the average subject distinction 2,1 per learner. In all, 26% passed with an A aggregate, while 26% passed with B aggregates. The top student, Robyn Helmbold, was among the top 5% of the achievers in the country. She was also among the top 1% for Geography, and Nikita Roxburgh was among the top 1% for Visual Art in the country.”
Robyn said she had worked really hard to obtain her seven As. “I always had it as a goal to obtain all seven because I knew I was capable of it. Yet I didn’t think I would manage to get the seventh A, so I am super proud. I applied and was provisionally accepted to study Veterinary Sciences at the University of Pretoria.”
