ShowMe Motoring: 7 Things You Should Keep In Your Car
7 Things You Should Keep In Your Car
Though the festive season and long, cross country driving is behind us, it is still vital to remember to have these items stored in the boot or compartment of your car at all times!
1. Fully Charged Cellphone
Cell phones have considerably cut down on your chances of being marooned on the side of the road, but do not count on it as your only line of defense. Apart from your main phone, have a backup one.
Just chuck that out dated Nokia cell phone from the 90’s into your cubbyhole as an extra precaution.
2. Jumper Cables
Leaving the car lights running is a common occurrence an often leads to a flat battery, what is worse is that it always happens at the most inconvenient times. Car batteries die, so be ready with a set of jumper cables.
3. Torch
Great for providing light at night when 1) fitting a spare tire, 2) jump starting a car, or 3) exchanging insurance information with the clueless driver that drove into the back of your car at the robot.
4. Reflective Triangle
When pulled over on the side of the road, you’re basically a sitting duck, hoping that other drivers don’t turn the situation into a clip for one of those extreme video shows. Make sure that you and those around you are visible when you pull over by using a reflective triangle.
5. Water Bottles
For when you are stranded, or when your car breaks down. A standard 5 liter bottle placed in the boot of your car is a good option.
6. Tow Strap
For when jumping starting your car won’t work and towing is the only option.
7. First Aid Kit
For when you need to treat a nasty cut or if you are needing to help fix a small scratch on your 2 year old’s thumb. Many stores sell the bag complete with medical/ first aid items that can easily fit into your cubbyhole or boot.

Extras to consider are a folding spade for when your car gets stuck in a hole or sand, and a warm blanket for impromptu picnics or emergency’s!
