How To Get Organised At Home And At Work
Our lives tend to be busy, a juggling act between work, home, family and personal time. As the new year slowly creeps up on us why not restore the balance and make a fresh start by learning how to be more organised, this might save you time to enjoy the things you love doing the most!
We provide you with guidelines, tips and tricks to become more organised in your life, covering two of the most important areas, work and home life.
Work:
Make a list of all weekly and daily tasks – Set reminders on your laptop or cellphone. Refresh your memory by reading your weekly planner/diary every day.
Decide what is most important – Do the important things first, they usually take the most time, but once they are done you can unwind.
Divide tasks throughout the month – Leave time for error, travelling, unexpected events and so on. By giving yourself a clear picture and format to work from you will save time and tasks can be done more efficiently.
Group smalls tasks together – By doing this you are lessoning stress.
Stay focused – Try not to start a new project until the previous one is complete. Concentrate on one thing at a time.
Try to complete all your projects – By doing this you will have less hassles in the long run, however when it comes to larger more intense projects, try to finish them up till a point and then tackle it the following day.
Deadlines – Set yourself deadlines, you will have less time to procrastinate.
Home:
Everything has it’s place – When you are finished with something put it back where it came from. There will be a lot less lying around. Try to have your children follow this rule to.
Stop the clutter pile up! – We all love freebies but do we really need them and will we use them? If you have no use for the item, get rid of it or donate it to charity. If you get small sachets in a magazine collect them and put them in a container, use them if you are going away for a weekend or camping. There will be less bulk to pack and no risk of spilt shampoo’s and soaps.
Notice clutter “hot spots” – If you notice that things tend to always pile up on a certain spot, figure out what they are and solve the problem. A bowl in the foyer serves as a good place to dunk car keys and you won’t always be on the hunt for them.
One is enough – There is no reason to have two of the same item in the house. Follow this simple rule, if you get something new throw the old one out. One in, one out!
Get rid of clothing – As the seasons come and go our wardrobes start to bulge. Donate clothes that you don’t wear anymore to a charity. If you did not wear and item last season chances are you won’t wear it this season. Drab, faded and tight items should also be tossed.
Get your children involved – By having them involved in organising the house, you will be encouraging them to follow in your footsteps.
Top Tips:
Declutter – Throw away things that you don’t need. The items that you do need can be grouped together and placed into a marked plastic container. For example: Cotton wool, nail polish and nail polish remover can all be put into a box together. Next time you want to do your nails you have everything you need in one place.
Perfect storage – Tired of things lying around, find a perfect container to store it in. Clear containers that are marked is a popular option. However there are beautiful ottomans with lids that serve as extra, versatile storage with a wow factor that can stand out in your lounge area.
Don’t be a perfectionist – If you only finish a task once you feel it is perfect you will waste time. When you reach the “good enough” stage move along to another task.
Don’t procrastinate – This is a major detriment to you starting anew. Do things immediately, by putting things off it only means the task becomes larger and requires more time to have it sorted out.
Write things down – Whenever in doubt write things down into a diary or planner or save it onto your phone as a reminder.
Remember to stay focused and set yourself deadlines!
