Homemade Ouma Bread Recipe
There is nothing better than a freshly baked bread. Try this Ouma bread recipe and it will take you back to the days spent on a farm. This recipe is close to the recipes used to make the much loved bread you buy at local farm stalls in Hermanus, 100% guaranteed!
Ingredients:
1 Kg White Bread Flour – Alternatively you can use brown flour, for a healthier option use unbleached flour or stone milled.
1 Packet Yeast
125ml Oil – Olive, sunflower or canola is fine
1 pinch of Salt
800 to 1000 ml of Water
Method:
Mix all the dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl. Then
Add all the combined wet ingredients. Mix well, some elbow grease is required.
Let the dough rise for 15 to 30 minutes.
This recipe allows you to make two small breads or one large bread.
Place dough mixture into a greased, oven proof bread pan.
Bake for 45 to 60 minutes at 180 degrees.
Remove from the oven and wait for it to cool otherwise cut and enjoy immediately with some apricot jam.
