Facts About Skin – Skincare Myths
Restoring Your Natural Beauty
The month of June is all about beautiful skin and like many people you probably have your skincare regime down to the wire. Many women choose the 3 step methods, cleanse, tone and moisturise. Along with sun protection, plenty of fruits and water.
There are millions of do’s and don’t, most do more harm than good. Knowing everything there is to know about your skin and treating it well will get you closer to that glowing skin you have been hoping for.
Hot Water Opens Pores
Despite a myriad of products claiming to open your pores when combined with warm water, this is all a bit of a myth. Pores can neither change size or open as you wish them to. The reality is that hot water helps loosen dirt and oil within the pores, allowing for better cleansing. Watch out for washing your skin with hot water as it strips your face of natural oils, which could dry out your skin and cause an irritation.
Facials Are A Key Part In Skincare Regimes
Facials are relaxing and your skin gets a good boost of vitamins and minerals, however, facials will not change the skins structure, or function in the short term. Intense moisturisers could make your skin shinier for a day or two afterwards but no in the long term.
Oily Foods and Chocolate Cause Breakouts
This is a common misconception, though oily and sweet foods are not good for you are your waistline they are not to blame for your breakouts. Stress hormones lead to pimples and stress is also a big contributor to overeating, especially of the unhealthy things like chips and sweets. That’s not to say acne and diet are unrelated. If you have pimple problems, limit foods high in carbohydrates and dairy, and drink plenty of water.
Your Skin Will Age Just Like Your Mom’s
Does your mom have the perfect complexion for her age, sadly that doesn’t mean that you will to. Even though genetics have a big part to play in how we age, factors like sun exposure, smoking, drinking, expressions, diet and pollution will all play a pivotal age in what you will look like when you reach your mom’s age.
Makeup With Built In SPF Is Just As Effective As Sunscreen
Relying on these products is a big NO-NO. Although proper sun coverage varies for everyone, a good rule of thumb: Pair SPF 15 sunscreen with SPF 15 cosmetics.
Scrub Your Skin To Avoid Pimples
Harsh scrubbing and exfoliating to much does not keep the pimples away. Excessive scrubbing dries out skin, which prompts extra oil production and more breakouts. For sudden breakouts, topical medications and gentle cleansing are your best options.
