“Hair” To Stay!
Bubbly, multi talented Amrie Joubert, owner and hairdresser of Amrie Hair returned to Hermanus in 2003 to be closer to her mom and twin sister. Her gradual climb to become her own boss and owner of a hair salon in Hermanus has certainly paid off and flourished into what is now one of the most popular salons in town!
ShowMe had the chance to catch up with this very busy lady, see what she had to say about her life…
What made you decide to become a hairdresser?
My grandmother and two aunts are hairdressers, I suppose it runs in the family. I grew up in the salon with my grandmother and worked in the salon since grade 4, first I was only allowed to sweep the floor but I learnt quickly how to wash hair.
Hermanus is…
My comfort zone and my home!
I love Hermanus in the…
I love Hermanus in the winter with all the whales. Coffee at Fusion in the winter sun and a blanket over the legs. Summer we have our long walks in the evening and up early for a ride on the bikes to Daily Bread, it’s our daily stop. Autumn and Spring are my favourite time of the year in Hermanus, because it’s not too cold or too warm. The temperature is just perfect then. Plus there are so many changing colours to see in nature!
If Hermanus was a hair colour & hairstyle, what would it be?
It would be a Victoria Beckham style with attitude, because Hermanus is perfect for stylish, casual and vibrant beach looks.
My favourite hair trend is?
I love to play with colour, foils and chic hair cuts.
The hair trend I dislike the most is…
Actually, there is not a single one I don’t like! Every trend is different.
The best part of my job is…
When I am finished with a client and I get to see the smile on their face.
I wish I knew then what I do know about…
Having my own salon 10 years ago, then I wouldn’t have waited so long.
My best memories are…
My best memories are at the first salon I worked at, that was with all the girls at Wall Street, next door to the Spur. The Spur chips and the fun we had in the salon. Lastly my best memory is of all my clients that have followed me for the last 10 years.
My three favourite hair care products are?
Brazilian Treatment, Indola Repair Range and Argon Oil Range.
What is the most important advice that you could give to a woman regarding her hair?
The best advice that I could give to a woman regarding her hair is to never use any oils or leave conditioner on your hair and then flat iron over it. You are heating the product and it will only end up breaking your hair.
I think that the most important thing a woman can have – next to talent, of course – is her hairdresser. ― Joan Crawford
