Alicia Boonzaaier
Alicia is part owner of a new exercising concept in town, namely the Kettlebell Fitness Factory in Hermanus.
Ketttlebell training is a way to teach a person how to develop the skill of strength by moving and breathing in a specific way. It not only works the whole body but offers results in half the time!
See what this local lady had to say to us…
Describe yourself in 3 words…
Warm, inquisitive, funny (weird, ha-ha!)
My 3 favourite things in the world are…
Koffie, kettlebells en katte.
What made you decide to open The Fitness Factory?
I’ve been running a ‘one-man-show’ for 2 years – teaching at Pro-Active Fitness and carting thebells around in my car to various private clients all over Hermanus – it was time to open a ‘kettlebell-spot’ where clients can come to me, where there is enough space, and the atmosphere and environment is conducive to teaching and training.
If you are not in the gym/studio what are you doing?
I am a single mom of a 16 year old son ….- do I need to explain anymore? Seriously though – between the hard work it took to get the business off the ground, prepping for clients and classes, and taking care of a household – if I do find time I enjoy reading, keeping up to date with the latest news in our industry, taking my dog (and two cats!) for a walk around the little estate where we live and then of course lying on the couch contemplating life!
The best part of owning The Fitness Factory is?
OWN SPACE! Being able to make my clients feel at home. Being able to direct new clientèle or interested ones to the facility knowing that they will be treated and taken care of with professionalism and kindness. Helping people to live healthier, be stronger and enabling them to enjoy better ‘movement-quality’ of life. Introducing a fun and very effective way of training, exercising and living!
Alicia’s motto: “My interest lies in my self-expression – what’s inside of me – not what I’m in – John Turturro”
Hermanus is…
MANY places rolled into one!!
I love Hermanus in the…
It is difficult to pick as season as these days they all happen within a week… – but the ‘in-betweeners’ are the best, those promising Spring days and long lazy Autumn afternoons – I really do like them all!
My favourite place in Hermanus is…
The beaches (Lang- and Kammabaai specifically) where I watched my then 12 year old develop and grow into a happy and confident body boarder – and where I’ve sat watching numerous sunsets and playful sea mammals at the end of long (and sometimes very hard and difficult) day. The view from the top of Rotary Drive on a windless and clear night – and breaking boulders at Siever’s Point. Why? Now that would be telling……
I wish I knew then what I do now about…
Things /life changes so quickly – ‘then’ could have been yesterday!
We all wish we could avoid heartache and pain – and I have made many mistakes and foolish decisions in my life – but hey! I think I am OK – and those were the things that made me into the person I am today.
My best memories are…
The images in my heart and mind of my son growing up...
