Book Worm – Meghan Joleen Warren
Meghan Joleen Warren – The Book Cottage
We catch up with long time local Meghan Joleen Warren, owner of much loved The Book Cottage in the heart of Hermanus.
The Book Cottage has been around for many, many years and is truly one of the town’s gem’s. A small, cozy cottage that was econverted into a book lovers den is what makes this place unique. However the real gem is Meghan Joleen Warren, who has been part of the book stores journey from the beginning.
See what this local lady had to say to us…
Where were you born?
JHB – Germiston (unfortunately)
What made you decide to settle upon Hermanus?
We arrived in Hermanus when I was 9 years old after spending 2 years on Sao Tome (an island just off of the West Coast of Africa). We used to come here on vacation and thought it would be a nice place to settle after island life.
Describe yourself in 3 words…
Light hearted, kind and happy.
My 3 favourite things in the world are…
Coconut water, the smell of freshly cut grass and reading (obviously).
What makes The Book Cottage unique…
We believe in the classics and offer a quirky selection as well as current and local reads. We also have a wonderful children’s section and we are pet friendly.
I love being a part of The Book Cottage because…
I meet new and interesting people every day. I also learn something new every day.
If you aren’t in the store what are you doing?
I rarely get time off, so house work unfortunately, and if I am lucky time on the beach or hiking.
“Don’t lie, don’t cheat and don’t make promises you can’t keep…” – Meghan Joleen Warren
Hermanus is…
Beautiful
My favorite place in Hermanus is…
Grotto beach, because I can just dig my toes in the sand, read a book and float away!
I wish I knew then what I do now about…
The economy, I would have planned better!
My best memories are…
My years spent in Sao Tome, climbing coconut trees.
My favorite book is….
Shawshank redemption by Stephen King – This book is not depressing at all, it is a warm tale about friendship during hardship and is an allegory about holding onto a sense of personal worth, despite everything.
My top 3 recommended reads this year are?
Narrow road to the deep North – Richard Flannigan
The Buried giant – Kazuo Ishiguro
Rosie project by Graem Simsion
Reading is….
An adventure that never ends…
